Olympic medalist Léon Marchand has been making waves in the swimming world, and Camille Lacourt has some thoughts on the young star.
In a recent interview, Lacourt praised Marchand's talent and potential, but also warned that he needs to be careful not to burn himself out.
"He's a great swimmer, but he's also very young," Lacourt said. "He needs to be careful not to push himself too hard, too soon."
Lacourt knows a thing or two about burning out. He retired from swimming in 2018 after a successful career that included Olympic and world championship medals. He said he made the decision to retire because he was "tired of swimming."
While Lacourt competed at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, Marchand is still in the early stages of his swimming journey, so time will tell how he handles the demands of elite competition.
Hopefully, he is able to build the endurance to stay in the pool long enough to really maximize his natural gifts.
