Brad Treliving Out as Flames General Manager

Treliving and Flames Mutually Agree to Part Ways

The Calgary Flames and general manager Brad Treliving have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced on Monday. Treliving had been with the Flames for nine seasons, and his departure comes after a disappointing season in which the team missed the playoffs.

The Flames had high expectations for the 2022-23 season after making it to the second round of the playoffs the previous year. However, the team struggled out of the gate and never recovered, finishing with a 29-41-12 record. Treliving took the blame for the team's performance, and he and the Flames decided it was time for a change.

Flames Begin Search for New General Manager

The Flames will now begin the search for a new general manager. The team has not yet announced any candidates, but there are a few potential candidates who could be in the running.

One potential candidate is former Flames player Martin Gelinas. Gelinas is currently the president of the Flames' AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat. He has no experience as a general manager, but he is a well-respected figure in the hockey world and has a strong understanding of the Flames organization.

Another potential candidate is former Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello. Lamoriello is a three-time Stanley Cup winner, and he has a wealth of experience in building successful teams. However, he is also 79 years old, and it is unclear if he would be interested in taking on another general manager job.

The Flames will have their work cut out for them as they search for a new general manager. However, they have a strong foundation in place, and they should be able to find a qualified candidate who can help them get back to the playoffs.
